DESCRIPTION:
Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month is recognized annually during the month of October. October is significant because in October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed, which also marked the introduction of the first national domestic violence toll-free hotline. In 1989 the U.S. Congress designated October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and such legislation has passed every year since.
